New “Adaptable Quartets: Sea Shanties” Makes a Splash Expanding Popular Series

Posted in

Lakeland, Florida (August 9, 2023) Excelcia Music Publishing announces the back-to-school release of Adaptable Quartets: Sea Shanties, the latest addition to the popular Adaptable Ensemble Series, with quartets for any combination of string instruments (in the String series) and any combination of wind and percussion instruments (in the Wind series). Written for grade levels 1.5-3, this new release contains 21 well-known and re-discovered sea shanties.

Expanding the range, instrumentation, and length of the popular works from the publisher’s Sea Shanty Trios book (released last year) as well as adding new classics to the list, Adaptable Quartets: Sea Shanties is a must-have collection for today’s music classroom.

“As a teacher, I was always looking for music that could reach students where they were while providing great opportunities to grow,” explains Tyler Arcari, arranger, composer, and author. “When the younger generation found and fell in love with old sea shanties, I knew it was a perfect pairing for the Adaptable Ensemble Series. Here we had music that had everything needed to teach fundamentals and good musicianship in a package that kids also enjoy!”

The Adaptable Quartets: Sea Shanties can be used as a standalone quartet book with like-instruments or mixed instruments, and is also well-suited for larger ensembles. All collections in the Adaptable Ensemble Series follow a meticulously crafted line scoring arrangement that facilitates seamless pedagogic progression from small chamber to full ensemble performances.

Drawing upon his expertise in composing flexible music, arranger Tyler Arcari enriches the adaptable library with this new collection, Adaptable Quartets: Sea Shanties. Other books in the Adaptable Ensemble Series by Matthew R. Putnam and Tyler Arcari (with Editors Robert Clayson- Percussion books, Diana Traietta- string books) include Adaptable Duets, Adaptable Trios, Adaptable Quartets, Adaptable Trios for Christmas and Adaptable Quartets for Christmas. All books in the series, including the new Adaptable Quartets: Sea Shanties, are available for Flute, Oboe, B♭ Clarinet/Bass Clarinet/B♭ Trumpet/Baritone T.C., Alto Saxophone/Baritone Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Horn in F, Trombone/Baritone/Bassoon, Tuba, Percussion, Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass instruments.

The viral resurgence of the sea shanty makes this the perfect addition to any modern music library. Both Adaptable Sea Shanties books for Trios or Quartets, and all books in the Adaptable Ensemble Series, are available for $14.99 from music retailers everywhere and from Excelcia Music.
