Program Notes
“Coastal Visions” is an exciting work that was commissioned by the Coastal Communities Concert Band in Encinitas, CA under the direction of Tom Cole. It was such a pleasure to write this piece of music for them. They are a fantastic community group that presents several concerts throughout the year and supports many charities along the way.
“Coastal Visions” was inspired by this group and the area of Southern California that is truly stunning. The coastline along the northern San Diego area is breathtaking.
This composition portrays the majesty of this landscape, including the paragliders that soar in the skies and over the coastline. There is a light and airy vibe to this and it is full of catchy rhythms and jaunty melodies.
The middle section is haunting and majestic to capture the grand scope of the topography. There are many wonderful solo opportunities and harmonic moments throughout this section. The fast music returns to keep the energy high to the impactful ending.
