Commissioned as part of the composer’s giveaway for “Music in Our School’s Month,” this new work for developing musicians is a nod to all the things that make middle school students great! Inspired by a love of video games and mythical creatures – “Basilisk” is not only a great introduction to music in 3, but is also a cinematic journey your audiences will love!
Program Notes
I have always been a huge fan of high-fantasy video games, especially those that involve epic heroes facing off against mythical creatures! If you have ever played my work, “The Snake Pit,” you’ll know I am very hesitant when it comes to snakes. The Basilisk is a very large, very scary snake creature! However, in my increasing advancement of age, I am realizing that even things that scare us can be inspiring and elicit awe and wonder. So, “Basilisk” is my attempt at depicting this mythical creature… maybe it meets its end at the hands of an epic hero… maybe not. You decide!
