Flower Moon – Full Score

Description

Using no rhythm smaller than a quarter note, “Flower Moon” is a supremely musical work for the youngest of ensembles. The entire piece for the upper strings requires only one finger pattern, allowing them to focus solely on making beautiful music together.

Program Notes

I find that the magic of music truly comes alive when things are simple. Simplicity allows the unique to shine through, and so with this work, “Flower Moon,” I wanted to showcase the color and texture of the strings without much technical demand. I am also an avid fan of fantasy worlds through literature, music, and video games. When writing this work, I imagined the moon casting a reflection on the water, which, rippling gently, created an illusion of the moon in the shape of a flower. Something as simple as a ripple produced a beautiful and new image, and there is really something special about that.
