Program Notes
The ancient Greeks believed that the god Poseidon controlled the seas and all within them. One of the most noticeable qualities in depictions of Poseidon is his three-pronged spear, also known as his trident. In Poseidon’s hand, the trident could create storms, cause earthquakes, and manipulate the oceans themselves. To this day, the trident is seen as a symbol of naval power and strength.
