About Christopher Artau
Christopher Artau is a young composer, arranger, and instrumentalist based in Miami, Florida. He is a current student at the Mater Performing Arts & Entertainment Academy and frequently writes and arranges music for the school’s wind ensemble, jazz band, and marching band. Ever since Chris began to play in bands, he was always fascinated by the compositional elements that made up the music he played. He got his start writing for band by copying various scores note-for-note into his notation software. Doing this, he began to learn the basics of composition and orchestration. He then went on to transcribe and arrange for various ensemble types and sizes until he eventually developed his own style.
At the 2021 Florida Music Education Association Conference, it was announced that Chris won the 2020-2021 Florida Bandmasters Association Composition Contest with a piece titled “Blossom.” This accomplishment connected him with Larry Clark, President of Excelcia Music Publishing, who allowed Chris to publish the winning piece and become the youngest composer with the publishing company.
