Description
Our students leave a lasting impression on us. For this work, Tyler Arcari’s inspiration is the lasting bond we build with our young musicians. Though our time together in the classroom is only temporary, we are forever bound by the memories we create today with our students.
Program Notes
“Bound Forever” was commissioned by the Gulf Breeze Middle School Band, Gulf Breeze, FL – Christy Stump, Conductor.
This composition is an exploration of the lasting impact that teachers have on their students. Coincidentally, this was a commission by one of my Middle School teachers, who wanted to have a piece written for a group of students she was lucky enough to take from elementary school all the way through 8th grade. As luck would have it, she took over as the Middle School director just as these students were going to Middle School, and this bond they had formed over the years remained unbroken by distance.
That was the inspiration behind this work, which I took the liberty of “infusing” some of my own personal feelings about this sacred bond into. I wanted the piece to sound as hopeful as possible, and while we all wish to remain within earshot of those who are dear to us forever, it is natural to eventually drift apart and go our separate ways. However, the lessons learned and the way people make you feel last a lifetime, and beyond.
I hope you know, young band kiddos, that you will forever be a positive mark on the lives of your teacher, and whether you know it or not, through that we are all “Bound Forever.”
