Program Notes

I am a novice at writing for the Jazz Ensemble, so when working on this, I wanted to create something that I would enjoy listening to. One of the things that truly captivates me is when a writer alternates smoothly between swing and another style. It might be a bit complicated for the musicians and ensemble, but oh, what a delightful sound it is for the listener. With “Kris Kringle’s Bringin’ the Jingle,” I envisioned a second-line groove that weaves in and out of big-band swing, creating a fun and engaging sound. As a result, the piece took shape.
