Recalling the modal tunes of Herbie Hancock like Maiden Voyage, Modal Citizen starts with a trio of Alto Sax, Trumpet and Guitar presenting the first statement of the melody. As the rest of the band is layered in the harmony expands in the B section. There is a written solo for Alto Sax and Trumpet over the easy modal changes.
