Description

Lyrically driven, this work for the developing Band is lush and full of melodies that will stay with you and your audience long after the last note sounds. We know you will love this one.

Program Notes

The word abiding usually refers to a memory or a feeling, something that endures. There are moments in our lives that become touchpoints we will remember forever. Through this piece, I wanted to invoke the feeling of joy that comes through the process of a young student having success in playing an Instrument. There is a pureness of heart in those who are early in their study of an Instrument, and the joy they feel when they perform a piece that brings about goosebumps for them and the audience.

My attempt through this piece is to give younger musicians the opportunity to play a harmonically lush and somewhat lyrical work to show off their budding musicality. It is always my goal to give students, through my music, the chance to play with heart, sensitivity, and emotion. They should bring a sense of sentimentality to this piece so that both they and the audience can feel the full intent of the work.

By encouraging young musicians to pour their emotions into music, we give them a great gift, which should lead to their abiding joy for musical expression.

It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece. I hope you and your students enjoy it and find it useful for your program.
