Program Notes
“Dark Star” was written after my reading about a looming asteroid that would narrowly miss Earth. I wanted to compose a piece that would evoke a feeling of urgency in the journey of an approaching asteroid as it hurtles ever so closely toward our planet. This work is intended to provide young Orchestra students with a thrilling musical ride through space, utilizing a variety of musical devices, including dynamics, syncopated rhythms, and strong melodies and countermelodies.
