The Marigold

The Marigold

Patti Drennan

Commissioned by the Polk County Florida Public Schools, The Marigold is the result of a long-standing tradition of Florida teachers and students who integrate the "Marigold Effect." Marigolds are planted near other plants to ward off disease and pests, thus allowing the plant to be nurtured and to survive. The same idea is replicated within people. We should surround ourselves with people who help nurture and encourage. Opportunities to recite verbal words of affirmation and encouragement are included in the song. This is appropriate for middle school through adult choirs.

Lux Aeterna Domine

Patti Drennan

Lux Aeterna Domine is a moving, a cappella piece that incorporates the Latin text for "May light eternal shine upon them, O Lord." Every Night When the Sun Goes In

Arranged by John Maclane Schirard

A new arrangement of a classic Appalachian folk song, this piece is great for expressive choirs both large and small. This song eases in and out of unison, two part, and four part harmony smoothly, giving an easy transition into close harmony. This is a great piece to give your choir a little extra push for musicality— there’s room for so much more than what is written on the page!

Il Est Né

Il Est Né

Arranged by John Maclane Schirard

A new Christmas showstopper! This arrangement is full of joy and excitement. This is wonderful introduction to eight-part singing for a choir, with its repetitive lines and memorable rhythms, but is no less enjoyable for advanced groups to sing. The song pulses with a celebratory rhythm, allowing the stunning original melody to dance around within the surrounding texture. This is also a great piece to give to a group that doesn’t sing much French— the text is quite repetitive.

Stand By Me

Stand By Me

Arranged by Russell Robinson

Russell Robinson has written a fresh and accessible arrangement in an a cappella SATB voicing of Charles Tindley’s original 1905 hymn, Stand by Me. It begins with unison voices and moves on to lush harmonies that choral groups and directors have come to expect from Russ. The second verse features a solo with beautiful harmonies for the supportive other voices. In addition to S/A sections and T/B features. There are plenty of opportunities for dynamic and rubato interpretation throughout the work. And, certainly, Tindley’s text is as timely for us today as it was in the early 1900’s, e.g., “When the storms of life are raging, stand by me.” The beauty of this arrangement will be loved by you and your choirs.
